The winter in the Canary Islands is marked by mild temperatures, so we will propose plans for you to spend a week in Tenerife, from the coast to the mountains. We propose a varied itinerary, which offers you a global vision of the island and includes the most characteristic aspects such as natural pools or hiking routes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/b>Icod de Los Vinos<\/em><\/p>\n

Day 1.<\/b><\/p>\n

Visit the Baja Island and some municipalities of the northern slope of the island of Tenerife, you will discover the taste of tradition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Icod de Los Vinos and La Cueva del Viento<\/b><\/p>\n

The day begins in Icod de Los Vinos, a municipality whose historic centre preserves the flavour of tradition, with cobbled streets and houses of traditional Canarian architecture. In this municipality you will find the so-called Drago Milenario, a tree-like plant that is hundreds of years old and is closely linked to the legends of the Guanches, the ancient inhabitants of the island of Tenerife. An authentic symbol of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

We suggest that you walk around the area of the Parish of San Marcos, from the square you can see the Drago and if you want to appreciate it more closely or walk through the gardens full of endemic flora, you simply have to access the Drago Park and buy the ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n

But, it takes between two and three hours in the morning to tour La Cueva del Viento, a maze of volcanic tunnels that reveals an environment very unknown to humans. This volcanic cavity was formed 27,000 years ago from basaltic lava from the Pico Viejo volcano. A guided tour is included with the purchase of the ticket, with an expert profile that explains in detail the geological and biological particularities of this cave.<\/span><\/p>\n

Garachico<\/b><\/p>\n

After completing your visit to Icod de Los Vinos, we recommend that you continue to head west towards Garachico.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you haven’t eaten, you can stop by El Guincho, and visit the<\/span> El Drago Restaurant<\/span><\/a>There you will find old and fresh fish, which have been caught in the morning and are prepared to enhance their flavor. If you like desserts, don’t forget to try the pineapple cake.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you arrive from Icod to Garachico, you will be confronted with a curious image, a large rock by the coast. This is the Roque de Garachico, a very visible remnant of a volcanic explosion. This Roque is part of the identity of this municipality, and is the habitat of many endemic species.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the coast you will find El Calet\u00f3n, a series of natural pools conditioned to facilitate access to very picturesque swimmers. In summer, it is common to find them full of locals and tourists, enjoying the sea and the sun. We recommend a visit to see them, and take advantage and visit the Castle of San Miguel, a small tower that was dedicated to protecting the coast of this municipality.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, Garachico offers an easily walkable old town that is a sample of traditional Canarian architecture. Come to the Plaza de la Libertad, and have a coffee in the kiosk in the square, or visit the Ex-convent of San Francisco.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Silos<\/b><\/p>\n

Finally, we suggest you go to the coast of Los Silos, where you will find a series of pools such as Charco de La Ara\u00f1a, Charco de Don Gabino or Charco Los Chochos, another type of natural pool ideal for swimming when the sea is calm. On this walk along the coast, you will find a real skeleton of a Sei whale, a whale, which gives this coast an exotic feel. Enjoy the views at dusk of the La Culata cliffs, and then we recommend you go up to the Los Silos hull and have dinner in the area.<\/span> The Hardware Store<\/span><\/a> is a good option, just keep in mind that it closes on Wednesdays and only offers lunch on Sundays.<\/span><\/p>\n

Day two.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Orotava Valley is made up of three municipalities: La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos. We propose you to visit two of them, Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava.<\/span><\/p>\n

Puerto de la Cruz<\/b><\/p>\n

Start your day in Puerto de la Cruz, walk around the Muelle Pesquero and enjoy the history present in its streets, visit the Casa de la Aduana, Plaza de Europa with its cannons or take a tour discovering the great murals of international artists in Puerto Street Art.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the weather is good, you can take a swim in Lake Marti\u00e1nez, a complex of saltwater pools designed by the Canary Islands architect C\u00e9sar Manrique. It is a sample of the coexistence between a space for tourist enjoyment and an integrated approach to garden and palm tree areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, you can go up to the area of La Paz and visit the Botanical Garden, where you will find exotic species brought from the American continent during the time of Spanish colonies. If you go up to La Paz, take the opportunity to visit the Paseo de la Costa, a small path that serves as a viewpoint of the Marti\u00e1nez area.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Orotava<\/b><\/p>\n

Spend a couple of hours walking through the center of this town, strolling around the Town Hall and the Church of La Concepcion, walking through the cobblestone streets and breathing in a slow lifestyle. Come to La Casa de Los Balcones, to La Casa Lercaro, disconnect in the Victoria Gardens and try the local confectionery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Teide National Park<\/b><\/p>\n

Go up to the Teide National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Wear warm clothes, because the temperatures in winter are usually low due to the altitude, especially when there is wind. We suggest that when you climb Teide you make a few stops to enjoy the views, the first at the Mirador de Mataznos, and the second at the Mirador de la Rosa de Piedra, where you will enjoy the views and a geological phenomenon at the very least.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you arrive at Las Ca\u00f1adas del Teide, you will be faced with an amazing landscape with a typically volcanic character, full of irregular formations and badlands. Visit the Roques de Garcia, be surprised by the Llano de Ucanca, and we suggest you hire a star-watching activity, because this island has extraordinary skies. Day 3.<\/b><\/p>\n

On this third day of the route, we propose a tour of the eastern part of the island. With a combination of mountains of Laurisilva and white sand beaches.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Cristobal de La Laguna<\/b><\/p>\n

La Laguna is a key municipality in the history of the island. Declared a World Heritage Site for being a model of a colonial city not walled, this municipality was the capital of the island before Santa Cruz took this name.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stately character is evident in the town centre, which is dotted with palaces and cobbled streets. Take a walk through the centre and include the Plaza del Adelantado, the Monastery of Santa Catalina, the Church of La Concepci\u00f3n or the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife.<\/span><\/p>\n

This enclave, being a hondanada, is usually humid and cold in winter, so we recommend that you bring warm clothes for your visit. You can warm up by trying a chocolate with churros in any churrer\u00eda, for example in the churrer\u00eda El Buen Paladar.<\/span><\/p>\n

After getting a little closer to the history of this municipality, we suggest you take a leap into a natural park.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anaga Rural Park<\/b><\/p>\n

It is worth jumping into this park that preserves lush valleys and ravines, which reach small coves. If you want to discover the magic of a Laurisilva forest, in this enclave you will have the best example of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are areas with regulated access and others with open access, you can also book activities such as mountain bike routes, horse riding routes, or trekking. If you prefer to tour the park on your own, come to the<\/span> Anaga Rural Park Visitor Center<\/span><\/a>. There you will receive detailed information about what to see in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the park you will find amazing viewpoints, and if you go into the interior of Anaga, you will find many traditional taverns and food houses such as<\/span> Santiago House<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Las Teresitas Beach<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

After finishing your route through Anaga, you can change scenery and go to a white sand beach, Las Teresitas. Las Teresitas is a beach with calm waves, protected by a breakwater, ideal for enjoying with children. The white sand contrasts with the nearby mountains, and an intense blue sea.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among its particularities, it stands out as a sanctuary for angel sharks, a small, harmless type of shark that has found the sand on the shore to be an ideal place to feed.<\/span><\/p>\n

This beach is accessible, has hammock service, with kiosks and beach clubs, showers and toilets.<\/span><\/p>\n
